The admiral on the screen rubbed his forehead. "Let me see if I understand this correctly, Captain. You had a ship full of malfunctions, didn't bother to call anyone for help, and they were all caused by a...disco ball?"
"As unlikely as it sounds, sir, it is true. You read my report on our previous mission. The cavern of items from the Alpha Quadrant and what happened there?" Christine saw the admiral nod sharply. "That was where the disco ball came from. And, before you ask, because I know it will come up, we did deep scans on every item, and nothing seemed out of place. I allowed the doctor to set it up in her quarters."
"No one made the connection right away, Captain? All these malfunctions couldn't be traced right back to that installation?" It was obvious that the admiral was irritated, and felt that protocols weren't followed.
However, the Captain had known this was coming as well. She knew the questioning was coming. "In all honesty, Admiral, no, there was no way to start. The malfunctions to start were just that, simple malfunctions. Most of them started with the sonic showers and replicators, so it would have been completely possible to just work on fixing those and be done. It was when the malfunctions started to increase and were not connected that we had to start digging around."
Seeming to be mostly satisfied with the answer for now, the man on the other end of he screen sat back a bit. "Honestly, Captain, I don't think I could have put up with all the malfunctions. What was this about you and Commander Ryan ending up stuck in the holodeck?"
"That was an...adventure...to say the least, sir." She did her best to keep from blushing. "Between that, the music randomly playing, never knowing what you were going to get from the replicator. It's been quite an interesting few days. I know this, I'll be careful about getting coffee from the replicator again."
"Coffee?" The admiral smirked and shook his head, "Dare I even ask what went wrong with the coffee?"
Holding up her proper cup, Tine chuckled a little. "Pepper flavored coffee. And I don't mean like bell peppers, black pepper. I didn't trust anything but fresh coffee for a while." She took a sip of the cup of coffee she did have. "I don't recommend it."
Laughing as well, the admiral shook his head in disbelief. "I haven't even gotten through the full list of each thing yet, but I have a feeling it'll be an interesting read. For now though, Captain." He sat up a big straighter. "We want the Medea to start heading back towards the Starbase. Given everything you have all gone through, I think a ship check-up is in order, don't you?"
"I had a feeling that was coming. The ship is properly functioning, and Lieutenant Milner is still digging around in that disco ball last I heard. But, we'll start heading that way."
He nodded. "Thank you, Captain. If plans change, we will let you know. Starfleet out."
The screen returned to the Starfleet logo, and Tine sat back in her seat. She always hated mission debriefs, especially over subspace. Luckily, this time, she got one of the nicer admirals. And the crew would probably be happy about the fact that they might get some R&R.
