New Mission - The Briefing

Posted on Sat Dec 5th, 2020 @ 12:26pm by Captain Christine Applegate & Lieutenant Commander Ian Ryan & Lieutenant Commander Zayn Satu M.D. & Lieutenant Baktosh Redclaw & Lieutenant Solana Milner & Lieutenant Tymon Wrex & Cadet Junior Grade Isamu Takato

Mission: Mission 5: Research Team - Missing in Action
Location: Briefing Room
Timeline: 2389 229 at 0750

The captain was early for the briefing, which was, honestly, unusual for her. But, she figured the senior staff had already heard about the course correction, even if they weren't on duty. This wasn't what she was hoping to tell the crew this morning, but it also needed to be done.

So she stood at the window, nursing a cup of strong coffee, looking back at the PADDs she'd laid at each seat before looking back out the window again, waiting for the crew to arrive.

Satu walked into the room carrying a cup of coffee and half of a bagel. "Hey Cap, what's shakin'?" She grinned cheekily as she moved to stand next to Tine.

Ian yawned as soon as he entered the briefing room, "Good..." He looked around, "Computer what time is it?"

"It is zero seven hundred fifty hours."

Ian nodded, "Good morning Captain and Doctor," He stated finally before deciding that his third cup of coffee was probably his best bet. Then he saw the half bagel and realized he was hungry too. "Oh, that looks good, what flavor is it?" He pointed at the bagel in the Doc's hand.

"It's asiago and sun-dried tomato with herb and garlic cream cheese. Really good," Satu said with a giggle. "Would you like me to order you one from the replicator, Commander?"

"Good morning you two. Look like you got more sleep than I did." The captain looked to them and then back out the window, waiting for others. "That does sound good though, Satu."

"No thank you Doctor." Ian responded as he gathered his notes that were on the PADD that he placed in front of him. "Captain, I'm happy to report that the live octopus that managed to get into Jeffery Tube alpha has been caught. The chef reported that he'll be able to promptly make that calamari he promised us."

"Would you like one, Captian?" She asked, turning to lean against the wall beside where Tine was standing. She smiled at her friend and looked to Ian. "You... have the weirdest reports...."

Solana walked in with a cup of coffee and a smile on her face.
"Good Morning, All!" She saidas she sipped her coffee and walked over to her normal place at the table. "Everyone doing alright?"

"Agree with Satu, Ian, you have some odd reports," The captain stated as she turned to see others coming in. "Good morning, Solana."

"Good morning Lieutenant Milner," Ian calmly said before looking at the Doctor and the Captain at the same time. "Well, tell the chef to take better care of his ingredients and my reports will become far more boring," Ian told them with the same relative calm as before.

Solana took her seat and chuckled. "Going after the chef again? His cooking is that bad." She glanced over her PADD and sighed before sipping her coffee again.

Next through the door was Baktosh. He had woken up early that day for drills with three of his lower-performing security teams, which had been largely successful. They were in the holodeck firing range while he took a break for the meeting.

"Good morning," he said as he took his seat, no food or drink with him.

"Ah, good morning, Baktosh. Feel free to find something to eat or drink before we get started. We are waiting on a few more." The captain finally started towards her seat.

"Morning Baktosh!" Satu said in her ever chipper tone, plopping herself down into a seat across from him and giving him a small wave with the hand holding the bagel. She then took a bite and wiped the bit of cream cheese that stuck to her cheek off with her thumb.

May as well, Baktosh thought. His colleagues and friends had food, and though he had eaten, something to drink would not be amiss. He stood and ordered a raktajino from the replicator before returning to his seat, lifting his mug in a 'cheers' sign to Satu before taking a sip.

A bit late, but Isamu walked into the room a bit quiet but giving a formal nod to the Captain and XO and walked to an empty seat to sit down.

Lieutenant Tymon Wrex entered the briefing room. He had to cut a session time as it went over its allotment, "Apologies, Captain."

Once everyone had gathered, the Captain motioned for everyone to take a seat. "So...I know you were all hoping that we were heading for some well deserved R&R...." She activated the holographic display in the middle of the table, "However, we have a research team to locate and possibly rescue...and we're the closest ones."

The image showed the planet of Binides, with a location marked on the surface.

"No one has heard from them in two weeks. We aren't sure what has happened, and it could be as simple as communications failure and they are all fine."

Ian cleared his throat, "There is also the possibility that the natives ate the research team right? Wait..." He looked at his own notes, "Never mind there isn't a cannibalistic tribal presence there." He changed pages, "I was looking at the wrong thing Captain I apologize."

"The challenge, Commander," Baktosh said, eyeing the XO, "is that we don't have much information on Binides. The planetary survey that dropped off the research team did what they could, but there is no telling what they might have missed." He looked to the Captain. "I recommend a full security detail on whatever landing party we send down."

Satu looked over to Ian and wondered if she needed to order a psych evaluation for him. When Baktosh started speaking again, though, she turned to look at him. "I would like to see any and all scans of the planet if possible. I'd like to know what biological agents we could come in contact with if we go down to the surface."

Hearing about the potential mission to a planet she took the courage to herself as Isamu spoke up "I would like to volunteer myself to pilot the shuttle downwards, I have read into the report of the planets orbit and its not fit for direct transport without causing ...issues"

"I'll get everyone anything that Command has given me. We'll arrive later this afternoon." The captain looked to Isamu. "If we do need to go down, then that's what'll happen. Besides, wouldn't trust anyone else to pilot down there." She looked to everyone else. "I'm nearly as in the dark as all of you, but I'm hoping this is just something where we can check in and start heading back to our shore leave. Anyone else have any questions?"

Sighing she looked up from the information on her PADD and then nodded. "No, ma'am. No questions. "

"No further questions," Satu said with a smile and nod. There simply wasn't enough information available to her to make any assessments or come up with any focused questions yet.

"No, Captain," Baktosh answered. "We will be ready."

Christine nodded to everyone. "Thank you all, dismissed."
