Welcome Aboard

Posted on Mon Mar 22nd, 2021 @ 7:01pm by Captain Christine Applegate & Lieutenant Commander Ian Ryan & Lieutenant Commander Zayn Satu M.D. & Lieutenant Baktosh Redclaw & Lieutenant Solana Milner & Lieutenant Jennifer Matthews & Cadet Junior Grade Isamu Takato

Mission: Mission 5: Research Team - Missing in Action
Location: Research Station - Underwater, Binides
Timeline: 2389 229 at 1415

The docking had gone unusually well for the fact that the station was underwater, by quite a long way. However, Isamu had maneuvered them to right where they needed to be and the automated docking procedure from the station itself worked properly.

But what was it they would be walking into? Even though it was Commander Ryan's show, the Captain couldn't help but speak up.

"There's no station flooding or anything, right? I don't want the shuttle to fill with water the moment we open up that hatch."

Jenni activated her tricorder, set its range to maximum and prepared to scan outside the shuttle. To her surprise, her tricorder screen flashed, indicating an opportunity to interface it with the stations's computer. Jenni did so and gained access to the station's sensors. "I just synced my tricorder with the station's computer," she reported to the Captain. "I don't pick up any evidence of flooding."

Feeling uneasy, Satu hitched her medkit over her shoulder and waited for the all clear. She definitely wasn't going to be near the front of the group if she could help it. But she also didn't want to be bringing up the rear.

With a small frown, she moved to stand next to Christine. "Well, that's a good start," Satu said softly as Jenni announced that there was no evidence of flooding.

Ian breathed a sigh of relief, "Are you detecting any life signs Doctor?" He asked Satu with his arms behind his back.

Solana bit her lip nervously and sighed. "Once we get in I can run a system diagnostic." She looked at the rest of the group with a bit of worry. The trepidation could be cut with a knife. "I'm sure we will get things sorted quickly." She moved her way closer to the front of the group to be of assistance if needed.

Baktosh stood at the hatch and prepared to open it, waiting for the cue to cycle the airlock. As chief of security, he planned to take point.

With a nod to the Captain and First Officer, he opened the airlock doors, one at a time, and stepped inside the now-undersea base.

Pulling out her tricorder, Satu scanned for lifesigns and shook her head. "Can't pick anything up, but that doesn't mean there aren't any out there, I just can't get a good read. Sorry," she said.

"That sounds a bit, fishy sir" Isamu said a bit jokingly as she tried to stay calm.

A voice came from nearby, attempting not to startle the team, but it likely did anyways.

"Now, if there are no life signs, why are we here?" A man appeared with a smile on his face. "We heard the docking go off but didn't believe it until we heard your voices. Amulius Sapir, head scientist." He looked among the faces.

"I'm guessing something has happened? Our external sensors haven't worked for a bit, but we can't get out to fix them..."

Jenni looked up from her tricorder. Even though she had synced it to the station, she was having trouble picking up life signs, much like the Doctor had. "You... can't fix the sensors?" she asked, slowly getting over this scientist's surprise appearance. "Do you lack the equipment to go outside?"

"Can you not swim?" Isamu blinked a bit.

“Sir, how many of you are on the station?” Baktosh asked. He looked to the Captain. “I believe we should account for everyone before investigating further.”

"Agreed," Ian answered.

Solana jumped slightly when she heard the unknown voice. She pulled out her PADD and pulled out the schematics for the research facility. She kept quiet because she wasn't sure she had anything to add.

Looking at the man and then down at her tricorder again, Satu frowned. "Hmm... this is odd... something's not right here," she muttered softly and began scanning the man in front of them. She made no effort to be subtle about it either. Though, she kept her distance, just in case he had a communicable disease.

"We...wait what?" Another voice came from nearby and appeared in front of them. "Swim? Go outside? We don't know why we can't get out, but the doors are sealed and none of our command codes work."

"This is Niobe Thi, one of the other scientists," Amulius stated, then looked to Baktosh. "Should be five of us, Lieutnant. We're not a large team. But she is right, we have no idea what is going on, but we can't get access to anything outside."

The captain stepped up, even though Commander Ryan was in charge of this mission. "Starfleet was concerned as you've been out of contact. We were sent to investigate. Your station is...under the ocean, not where it should be."

Niobe looked to Amulius and then back, "Under the ocean?!"

"It's true," Jenni confirmed. She found this all a bit alarming, but she supposed a small handful of research scientists could just as easily have tunnel vision regarding their work. "We were hoping you'd be able to shed some light on how that happened."

Amulius frowned, "That might explain a few things. Everything otherwise was working fine, but we randomly had those systems go out and were unable to get to them to repair them."

"Now we know why," Niobe said as she looked to the crew. "Well, you don't all have to stay in the airlock area, least we can do is have you all come for a tour before we figure out how to fix this."

"A tour does sound lovely," Jenni admitted, figuring there was no better way to get to the station's systems for a closer inspection. Besides, they weren't going anywhere.

"Yes, a tour would be lovely," Satu agreed. "I would especially like to see your medical facilities. And if I may request access to your team's medical files? I'd like to review them to get a baseline for my assessment of each of you."

Solana had so many questions, but none of them would get answered right now. Something about this situation rubber her intuition the wrong way. However, if everyone else was being kind, she could be as well.

"I'll gladly take a look at your power systems to make sure everything is running smoothly. I might also be able to remove the block on your access codes."

"Niobe can handle the medical tour, and I can take the rest of you to our command center if you'd like," Amulius stated with a smile, receiving a nod from Niobe. "Who'd like to go where, besides the doctor of course."
